Sustainability
At Hamilton, our students, faculty, and staff are passionate about protecting the planet—leading the way through innovative classes, sustainable campus practices, and a shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
-
Sustainability Commitments
The Sustainability Working Group has created three plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. -
Student Sustainability Efforts
There are many ways to get involved on campus, locally, and throughout the region. -
Academics & Research
Sustainability is woven into every aspect of a Hamilton education — from courses and off-campus study programs to hands-on research and career-related experiences.
Hamilton Sustainability Coordinators
Hamilton Sustainability Coordinators (HSC) are student leaders driving campus sustainability, from dorm composting and habitat management to community outreach — connecting peers, projects, and progress.
Facilities
We’re advancing a culture of sustainability by implementing environmentally conscious practices such as reducing fossil fuel heat sources, conserving water use, and minimizing the release of harmful chemicals.
Green Transportation
Students don’t need to have a car on campus to run an errand, visit the mall, or go out to dinner and a movie. They can use Hamilton’s free Jitney shuttle service, take a taxi or Uber, or hop the public bus.
Food, Waste, and Recycling
Shrinking the distance our food travels from farm to plate is one way that Hamilton’s food service provider leads the way in changing the way people eat. We prioritize sustainability throughout our dining venues through local and humane sourcing, plant-based menus, eco-friendly packaging, and waste reduction initiatives like food salvage, reusable containers, and fryer oil recycling.
